The Strawbs are an English rock band founded in 1964. The band started out as a bluegrass group, but eventually moved on to other styles such as folk rock, progressive rock, and glam rock. They are best known for their hit "Part of the Union", which reached #2 in the UK Singles Chart in 1973, as well as for "Lay Down", a popular progressive rock hit. Their transformation from acoustic bluegrass outfit to progressive folk rock innovators was an impressive feat, and they hit their stride with gems like 1972's Grave New World and its follow-up Bursting at the Seams.
