Metalcore band Beartooth was formed in Columbus, Ohio, in 2012 by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Caleb Shomo. Beartooth's debut EP, 2013's Sick, delivered a sonic gut-punch that felt both raw and rooted, a sound that the group would continue to explore on subsequent full-length releases like Disease (2018), Below (2021), and The Surface (2023).
