Catalan rumba, flamenco, salsa, and pop band Gipsy Kings, was founded in 1978 in Arles and Montpellier, in southern France. The Gipsy Kings are largely responsible for bringing the joyful sounds of progressive pop-oriented flamenco to the world. They became popular with their self-titled third album, released in 1987, which included the songs "Djobi Djoba", "Bamboléo", and the ballad "Un Amor".
