First coming to prominence as Sonic Youth's bassist/vocalist, Kim Gordon keenly questions consumerism and women's roles in society with her music, writing, and visual art. Her contributions in Sonic Youth are considered by music scholars to have been key influences in the development of grunge music and riot grrrl, both musical movements which began in the early 1990s.
