Assyrian black metal and Mizrahi metal band Melechesh was formed in 1993 in Jerusalem. Both musically and lyrically the band creates a type of black metal incorporating extensive Middle Eastern influences mainly based on Assyrian and occult themes. Their style has been described as "Mesopotamian metal" or "Sumerian Black Thrashing Metal".
