Irish rock band The Boomtown Rats was formed originally in Dublin in 1975. Mixing punk energy with new wave sophistication, the band had a series of hits including "Like Clockwork", "Rat Trap", "I Don't Like Mondays" and "Banana Republic". Their frontman Bob Geldof became a highly visible figure globally for his humanitarian work, led the charitable supergroup Band Aid and organized the massive 1985 Ethiopian relief Live Aid concerts.
