Although more noisy, arty post-punk, the U-Men are labeled as one of the pioneers of grunge and was a crucial part of the Seattle scene in the mid-1980s. The U-Men took their myriad influences, the garage rock, post punk, and a touch of goth, and synthesized them into something uniquely their own. The band was too arty for the hardcore punks and too punky for the art rockers. The U-Men were their own thing.
