The Undertones formed in Derry, in 1974, and they are one of the most successful bands to have emerged from Northern Ireland. Much of the earlier Undertones material drew influence from punk rock and new wave, they also incorporated elements of rock, glam rock and post-punk into material released after 1979, before citing soul and Motown. In 1978, the band recorded their debut four-song EP "Teenage Kicks". In 1980, the Undertones released their 6th single, "My Perfect Cousin". The song reached #9 in the UK charts and would subsequently prove to be the band's highest charting single in the United Kingdom.
