Psychedelic rock band Unknown Mortal Orchestra was formed in Auckland, New Zealand in 2009. The group's driving force, Ruban Nielson, is a psychedelic explorer with an experimental bent that was clear from the very first home-recorded UMO album, which combined his soaring guitar work with winsome melodies and trippy production. Their style has been described as psychedelic rock, R&B, indie rock, garage rock, and lo-fi.
